After Pita Bread, today I’m going to post the recipe for making Hummus. Hummas is the Arabic word for chickpeas, in fact, hummus is a dip made from chickpeas.
There are a bunch of different version of hummus: hummus with Tahini, hummus without tahini, hummus with spinach and feta bread, hummus with yogurt, and so on. The one I’m posting today is the classical HUMMUS WITH TAHINI.
I wasn’t able to find Tahini at the City Shop close home and I didn’t really want to go all the way to the gubei store, so I’ve just used a Chinese brand of sesami paste (just 16 yuan for a big 400 g jar). The result was pretty good!
Ingredients (8 serving of 44 g):
- 1 can of chickpeas ( 400 g)
- 1 clove garlic (crushed)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 a lemon juice
- water from the chickpeas can
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 2 tbsp tahini (or sesami paste)
Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor (except for the chickpeas water). Blend at low speed, then add the water. Keep blending at high speed till it gets smooth and creamy.
Place hummus in a bowl, pour on top some olive oil and serve with vegetables or warm pita bread
