Spezzatino is a meat dish made of beef or pork. It takes its name from the meat that is cut into cubes, in fact the italian word refer to something that has been broken into pieces.
There are different varieties of Spezzatino: baked with potatoes, with green peas, with sweet peppers, and so on. The recipe I am posting today is for making Spazzatino with tomatoes, it’s very easy but tasty and it can be served on a bed of rice.
Ingredients (for 2 servings)
- 400 g beef meat (cut into cubes)
- 1/2 glass red wine
- 1 can tomatoes
- onion (chopped), olive oil
To shorten cooking time I used a pressure cooker.
Place the chopped onion, oil and a couple of spoons of water in the pot and let cook till the onion is soft.
Add the meat, let cook both sides for about 5 mins.
Pour in the half glass of wine and let evaporate.
Add salt, the tomato can and some water (just enough to cover the meat).
Cover the pressure cooker and let cook for about 25 min at low-medium heat (if you are not using a pressure cooker, cook the meat covered with a lid for about 1 and a half hour). Open the cooker and let the water evaporate (about 10- 15 min at medium – high heat).
