Italian Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

DSC_0003

This is one of the classiest Italian dish EVER!

This is my family recipe for meatballs in tomato sauce. A divine comfort food!

I love meatballs in tomato Sauce!

These is how we make it in my family. Take notes!

Ingredients:

  • 300 g ground beef
  • 200 g ground pork
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup of bread, soaked in water and squezzed
  • 2 tsp salt
  • pepper and fresh chopped parsley
  • 1 bottle of tomato sauce (950 ml)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • canola oil for frying

Start by putting the meat in a big bowl. I like mixing pork and beef cause the pork by having a little bit more fat, makes my meatballs nice, soft and moisture

add in 1 cup of bread – that you have previously soaked in water and then squeezed -and freshly chopped parsley (about 3 tbsp)

next up, grab one egg

and crack it in

plop*

now add in 1 tsp of salt and ground black pepper. Go free with the last one, add as much as you like

and last,  but not least, add in 1/3 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Now using your hands get dirty and mix all the ingredients together

Now always with your hands, grab some of the meat mixture, about the size of a big chestnut, and roll it up forming a nice ball

Keep going until you have used all the meat you have!

Now heat up some oil

and when really hot, drop in a few meatball at a time and fry them up for a few minutes

NOTE! You just want to get them nice and gold on the outside. Don’t worry about cooking them through. We’ll take care of that later in the tomato sauce.

Then remove them from the oil and let them dry on kitchen paper

Meanwhile, chop up 1/2 onion

Heat about 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and throw in the onion

Saute’ the onion until it gets nice and soft

Pour in 1 bottle of tomato sauce, add about 1 tsp of salt and let it cook for about 5-10 min

Now take your meatball and carefully add them to the sauce. One by one

Now cover with a lid and let simmer for about 2 hours. The sauce needs time to thicken and get all the flavor from the meatballs

Go do some pole dancing…or yoga or just lay on your couch and read a book

About 2 hours later they are ready!

Yummy!

Go, grab one and bring it right into your mouth!

Enjoy my friends!

P.S. You can eat it like this or use the sauce for dressing our pasta!

Love
