Fresh Tuna Fillet with Mediterranean Sauce
A taste from my hometown
Fresh tuna is a very healthy and tasty type of lean fish. It can be cooked in many different ways, playing around with different combination of ingredients and spices.
You guys know my roots are in the Mediterranean and thus I have a deep connection with all sort of fresh veggies, olives, fresh herbs and of course extra virgin olive oil. Today’s recipe serves a cut of tuna fillet cooked in a light and tasty sauce.
The sauce can be used to dress pasta, rice, couscous or any other type of grains you might like. I served mine with a slice of roasted garlic bread.
Here is the recipe!
Ingredients (Serves 2)
- 2 fillets of fresh tuna
- 2 clove garlic
- 250 gr cherry tomatoes
- 4-5 leaves of fresh basil
- 6-8 Kalamata olives
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (I used organic Alce Nero)
- 1 tsp dry oregano
- salt and pepper
Grab the tuna fillets and cut them into 1 inc cubes
Cut in halves the tomatoes
In a skillet heat up the extra virgin olive oil with the garlic, until the garlic gets a nice golden brown color – use low temperature as you want the gently aromatize the oil, without burning the garlic. Add the tomatoes, season with salt and pepper and cook on medium-high for 5 min.
Next add the tuna, dry oregano, chopped olives and 2-3 chopped basil leaves.
Adjust again with salt and pepper, cover with a lid and cook for 10-15 min or until fish is cooked.
Add some more fresh chopped basil
Serve it up with a sprinkle of freshly grated black pepper!
